Christmas spirit
not long ago, i sent out a message asking folks about their personal definitions of "Christmas spirit." for the ones who responded and didn't request not to be posted, your remarks follow in the order i received them. THANKS for replying - i really enjoyed what you had to say. for those of you who didn't respond, well, baaaaaah humbug. maybe next year? here goes:
I would say that a person's true "Christmas spirit" shows when they put every thing that they would normally be doing, planning or thinking about aside and make time to put others first. Traditionally, this is thought of in terms of visiting with family and friends or attending a holiday gathering.

in keeping with my generally antisocial approach to life, Christmas spirit to me is not all the "family and friends and traditions" BS that people fake this time of year. not sure if it's a definition but the only thing that makes me FEEL the Christmas spirit is giving things to total strangers: always give to the bell-ringers outside stores; always "adopt" a child or family (anonymously) and buy gifts for them; always buy those bags of food at the grocery store that go to the food bank or charities. those are the things that make Christmas seem real for me.

Christmas spirit – like any “spirit” isn’t something seen or heard, but Christmas sights and sounds “prompt” the spirit. To me, the spirit is what makes me think a litter longer and deeper about what’s really important:
I wonder if everybody I know and love is OK
I wonder if all the kids will be taken care of this Christmas – and being sad knowing that surely, many won’t
I wonder if we can – or will – do better things, and be better people
David Taylor

Christmas Spirit - the warm feeling of friends- family and the feeling of love and caring that is present this time of year. The joy of giving a special gift, that you picked out for that certain someone and nobody else. Christmas is reaching down deep in your heart and let those feeling come up to the top by wishing a complete stanger - Merry Christmas.
Sam Whitehead

Christmas Spirit is the willingness to help others and give to everyone you love and fellowship with all you love and just having good old fashion fun. And most importantly remembering the reason we have Christmas at all which is simply the birth of Jesus Christ and his purpose on this earth which was to die for our sins. That is what I believe the Christmas Spirit is.
